An evening full of inspiration, appreciation, and powerful messages for the protection of our oceans

On November 7, 2025, in the glittering Skylines studios of Radio Frankfurt, high above the lights of the city, an extraordinary milestone was set for global environmental protection. The German Ocean Foundation received the prestigious Golden Planet Award 2025 – an award for organizations that set new standards in social and ecological commitment through sustainable action.

An evening with international appeal

Guests from politics, science, business, culture, and international representatives from Europe, Africa, and the US praised the foundation as an “indispensable advocate for the oceans.” The atmosphere in the Skylines Studios was electric: a panoramic view of the skyline, emotional video clips from ocean projects around the world, and touching music provided the backdrop for an award ceremony that made the spirit of change palpable.

Recognition of exceptional commitment

Laudator Dr. Ina Knobloch emphasized that the German Ocean Foundation is one of the few organizations in Germany that works holistically to protect the world’s oceans:

Frank Schweikert, founder and driving force behind the foundation, received special applause. In his acceptance speech, he reminded the audience that the oceans are not only the basis of life, but also the hope for our future. “The sea is our greatest ally – but it needs our help now. We cannot wait any longer,” said Schweikert.

An award that inspires courage

The presentation of the award was not only a celebratory moment, but also a signal: the German Ocean Foundation shows how effective commitment can be when science, society, and responsibility are combined with passion.

The jury emphasized: “This award stands for courage, perseverance, and the ability to inspire people. The German Ocean Foundation is not only changing perceptions – it is changing the future.”

Frankfurt as a stage for global responsibility

The decision to hold the awards ceremony at Skylines Studios was a conscious one. In the heart of a metropolis that stands for economic power and innovation, it served as a reminder that progress and sustainability must go hand in hand.

The impressive backdrop reinforced the message of the evening: we all bear responsibility – for the climate, biodiversity, and the oceans that cover 70% of our planet.

Outlook

With the Golden Planet Award 2025, the German Ocean Foundation not only receives recognition for its achievements to date, but also momentum for future projects. The evening impressively demonstrated that marine conservation is not a niche issue – it is a global task for humanity.

A big thank you also goes to the initiators of the Golden Planet Award 2025: Lady Dr. h.c. Astrid Arens (Voice Aid Association) and Stephan Schwenk (Radio Group), who successfully hosted this special event for the fourth time at the Sykline Studios of Radio Frankfurt.
